Communicating in the Workplace

Effective communication is the cornerstone of career success. In this class participants learn and practice communication skills to:

  • listen more effectively to customers, coworkers, supervisors;
  • stay calm in conflict;
  • resolve problems respectfully; and
  • present views and ideas calmly and appropriately.

Participants get ample time to practice these skills in class. Lively instruction and class discussions focus on how to apply the skills in the workplace. Previous participants consistently report improved work relationships and job satisfaction due to using the skills from this class.

Topics include:

    • Active listening
    • Starting difficult conversations
    • Providing positive feedback
    • Responding to concerns
    • Presenting your views
    • Handling insults
    • Managing conflict

Length: 10.5 hours (3 half-day sessions)

 

Team Building in the Workplace

Everyone wants to be on a team that is successful. In this class participants learn and practice team skills that:

  • improve the productivity of team meetings;
  • promote contributions of all team members; and
  • use goal setting and consensus building techniques productively.

Participants practice the skills in challenging team exercises. Lively instruction and class discussions focus on how to apply the skills in the workplace. Previous participants report improved team productivity when they use the skills from this class.

Topics include:

    • Basic team roles
    • Facilitating/Helpful roles
    • Decreasing harmful team behaviors
    • Communicating with teammates
    • Building consensus
    • Setting team goals
    • Holding effective meetings
    • Team leadership

Length: 10.5 hours (3 half-day sessions)

 

Problem Solving in the Workplace

The ability to respond quickly to the changing demands of customers is essential for the success of any enterprise. In this highly interactive class, participants learn clear problem solving steps using data and objective methods to analyze and creatively solve problems. They also learn how to explore problem solving with an emphasis on the team environment and on customer expectations.

Topics include:

    • 5 systematic steps to better problem solving
    • Identifying problems
    • Discovering customer expectations
    • Finding the root cause
    • Problem solving in a group
    • Brainstorming solutions
    • Implementing and monitoring solutions

Length: 9 hours (3 half-day sessions)

 

Half-Day Classes for Work Groups

Listening to Customers and Co-workers

This highly interactive workshop focuses on the essential skill of active listening to enhance customer relations and reduce conflict.  It is great for new employees or as a refresher for your seasoned staff.

Length: 3 hours (one half-day session)

 

Advanced Communicating Skills for Challenging Situations

Consider this fast-paced workshop for your seasoned staff that would like additional skills for reducing misunderstandings, building rapport, handling upset customers.

Length: 4 hours (one half-day session)

 

Team Tools

Consider this fast paced workshop for your team kick-offs or to energize and focus an established team.  Practical tools such as effective meeting tools and building consensus are presented.

Length: 3 hours (one half-day session)

Personalized and confidential feedback and coaching with our specially trained staff covering a discussion and plan for skill growth along with a focus on applying skills in the workplace.

Employees are assessed in six key skill areas:

  • Customer Service Orientation: Meeting or exceeding the expectations of others

Our Ongoing Training Program

Our Communicating, Team Building and Problem Solving classes are presented every month at our location in Sunnyvale, Calif.  Consider sending individuals from your staff to these classes as needed.   Each class is presented in 3 half-day sessions in the same week. Training for Your Work Groups

Come to our Sunnyvale location or we will come to your location to present the training topics that meet your needs.  Various scheduling options are available, such as half day sessions presented in consecutive weeks for the longer classes.

We serve cities within the San Francisco Bay Area. Services can be provided at our Sunnyvale location or at your place of business.

 

PEP has served over 1,500 participants since its development in 1999.
